Re: Trial of Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD)

Yeah there are a few others but it's a pretty limited list. I made a spreadsheet of them. I went to https://nutritiondata.self.com/ and searched for a variety of foods, set the serving size to 100g for all of them, and clicked on the detailed amino acid profile to find out the TRP amount. I don't kn...

Re: Trial of Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD)

Thanks Sopgirl! :) That's an interesting point about melotonin. On the days when I follow the ATD protocol I'm eating normally for lunch and dinner, I just have a restricted breakfast and eat lunch late-ish so my tryptophan levels have time to fall. This should produce a short-term drop in tryptopha...

Re: Trial of Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD)

I think lowering dietary tryptophan, or having some tryptophan absorbed by gut bacteria, is likely to be less effective than following the ATD protocol. The ATD protocol creates a measurable drop in brain serotonin levels from 6 to 10 hours after you eat the dose of TRP-deficient protein. We can't m...

Re: Trial of Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD)

What a difference it makes when you actually try to do the thing you planned to do. After all that money spent and time wasted measuring and mixing the ingredients, I could not stomach the amino acids . They smell like sulfur and taste unbelievably vile. Yesterday I managed to eat about 3/4 of the f...

Re: Trial of Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD)

I just realized that gelatin contains zero tryptophan. Gelatin would be a cheaper alternative to the individual amino acids. If this protocol works, I'll switch to gelatin. Also I've found a couple of papers that showed the lowest concentration of serotonin in CSF was achieved 6+ hours after taking ...

Trial of Acute Tryptophan Depletion (ATD)

[UPDATE: READ THIS FIRST I haven't tried ATD since my last post on July 7 - work was too busy, and then I went on vacation for a while. So I only tried it four times in total. Over the month since I tried it, I've noticed that I've been making more verbal mistakes than usual. I also experienced two...

Re: Monitoring apps for PSSD? For a rigorous experimental protocol

Whyme11, you've very lucky to have a perfect memory! I don't have a perfect memory so I don't trust myself to keep track of my symptoms. If anyone knows of a good app for this I'd like to hear about it.

Monitoring apps for PSSD? For a rigorous experimental protocol

I'm thinking that before starting any experiments, I should monitor my PSSD for a while - some days are better than others, and it's really easy to fool yourself and think the treatment is working if you have a good day. I want a rigorous experimental protocol where I track my PSSD for a while to ge...

Low tryptophan diet?

Hi all, I'm new. I joined because I saw the thread on urecholine, got hopeful, and then lost hope when I saw it was a scam. Well, I'm here now. I am a bit hesitant to try treatments on the very long list of things that have been tried. Firstly, nothing seems like a cure - some things work for some p...
