Updated with information on turmeric/curcumin. From the research, it looks really promising, but results have been mixed. I've been on it since 8/25- I had two fantastic windows of about a day or two each. But the rest of the time, I felt below baseline. My mood was generally ok, but I had 0 sex drive. I really don't know if its helping or hurting. Im going to take a break from it and see how I feel.

updated with some more papers and results from turmeric experimentation. In short, it seems to have a potent anti-depressant effect, but not much impact on sex drive.

I have also thought about trying curcumin as it is a direct DNMT inhibitor.

The antidepressant effects have been pretty unmistakable. feelings like warmth, closeness, and affection used to be something I only experienced in a window. Currently I've maintained all these feelings the entire time I've been on curcumin (20 days).

That is great. How about trying higher doses? Btw is it in liquid form? Not all forms of it are equally bioavailable.

Higher doses are certainly an option. Time is a factor too, I believe in all of the papers I cited, subjects were on curcumin for at least 4 weeks. I take it in powder form along with biopeperine. I'm certainly willing to try a liquid form. I will have to do some reading on which type is most readily bioavailable.

I had to stop curcumin. Although it had a nice anti-depressant effect, it made my sex drive worse and made it impossible to have an erection. Even with 20mg of viagra, surprisingly.

I went to a new psychiatrist today who at least believed me. I'm having some lab work done and maybe shuffling around some meds. she suggested abilify, which I think might be a good fit.

Some new labs in. Testosterone and free test are in normal range, though free test is on the low end. Prolactin has been reduced by 40% since my last test on 3/27/18. It hasn't had a huge impact on symptoms though I do feel stronger, I guess. This was probably caused by use of dopamine supplements, namely dopa mucuna. I switched to a new, more concentrated brand, and had a fantastic window of a day or two, before coming back down to baseline.

I tried tapering down off of buspar and it was horrible, I couldn't handle then anxiety. I spoke with my psychiatrist today and she bumped me up to 40mg lexapro to see if that helps. She was not yet willing to prescribe Abilify because it would require a significant reshuffling of medications.

I believe this supports the theory of PSSD that is caused by permanent desensitization of serotonin and dopamine receptors. I need huge amounts of exogenous transmitters to get anywhere close to my old self, and even with all of this, my sex drive is still not good.

I would like to get SHGB checked, but my GP was not willing to order this. Can I get this done from a private lab?

Also of interest is turmeric/curcumin. I did two cycles of a few weeks each. It had a significant anti-depressant effect, but I felt like it made my sex drive worse. Interestingly, I haven't had a single feeling of depersonalization since. This was a major concern of mine before. Turmeric supposedly has some methylating and epigenetic effects, maybe theres something to it.

I have tried l-tyrosine and felt that it didn't compare to dopa mucuna. But, I may try it again at higher doses and in combination, to try to get the full spectrum of dopamine supplementation. Thats a good idea, thanks.
