People who tried SSRI reinstatement, your input is needed

Unread post by Meso »

Sometimes reinstating SSRI works for some of the symptoms (if not all) when many other treatment attempts fail. It can be the only thing that works for some people, actually.

How is that possible if there is gene silencing in-effect? it seems contradictory - and it's very important to investigate this further since it can hold the final key in beating PSSD for good: it begs the question, does SSRI reinstatement improve symptoms through their serotonergic action or through some other unknown action?

For people who have tried SSRI reinstatement:
- Have you tried other serotonergics for symptoms before reinstating the SSRI? (i.e. TCAs or MAOIs or any other serotonergics)
- Did you reinstate the SSRI that caused your PSSD, or another SSRI altogether?
- Did you experience SSRI withdrawal syndrome after quitting the SSRI? was it minimal or severe?

would you consider a very low dose of ssri a reinstatement?
- i got pssd from paroxetine, no AD before that, except SJW, valerian etc. I did use accutane when i was 17. After quitting paraxetine, i switched to fluvoxamine for 2 weeks.
- I tried low dose a couple of times, but before i did try moclobemide, bupropion and several supplements like SJW, muira puama etc.)
- i tried low dose of both (about 1/20 or 1/10 of the minimal therapeutical dose, so 1-2 mg paxil and 5-10 mg fluvoxamine). it improved brainfog, energy, PE but not emotions or real libido.
- i tapered the ssri down really slow, and had sexual dysfunction in the last weekof taking 1-2 mg. but when i fully quit i felt normal again, for a short period however, full pssd after this. No real withdrawal symptoms honestly.

only worked for me in the short term. long term made me worse.

it's almost like we were addicted to SSRI, and the body likes it when it gets it again. I even tried low dose Prozac, and really didn't help. for me, resinstating SSRI seems to never work for anyone, just another form of transfering the symptoms.

Thats not completely accurate, it did seem to work for several people, the cases are on this forum.
it seems quite risky however and potential to make things worse

- No except for some supplements. If substances like Ginkgo and Rhodiola are to be considered MAOIs, then yes... and I had beautiful windows with them.
- I took Paroxetine and Escitalopram and got PSSD. I reinstated an SSRI, but Vortioxetine this time. I had great windows at normal doses then vanished. Now I'm taking just 4mg, sex is good although is better with cialis (5mg is enough... Prior the reinstatement not even 20mg of vardenafil had any effect)... Anhedonia is the big problem (I'm stacking with other supplements... but I guess I'm going off-topic here).
- withdrawal from paroxetine was really severe; from excitalopram minimal (BTW escitalopram completely fucked my creativity and hedonic part)

Ive pretty much tried everything from ssri, snri, tca, and maoi.

I did a full dna panel with a place here in Canada that recommended what would work best with my gene's

It recommended Welbutrin and Zoloft. I was hesitatant of using Welbutrin as I had tried in the past and feel ot didn't work for me. I didnt want to try zoloft because its another antidepressant. My depression and intrusive thoughts started getting really bad in May (suicide month) I decided to give zoloft a try. It took a few weeks to start to feel some benefits but slowly my depression and intrusive thoughts went away. I also started getting strong morning erections and erections popping up through the day. I also had sex 4 times in 1 day without the aid of an ED med. Its still pleasureless and I have difficulty reaching orgasm. I wouldn't say Im cured far from it. Its given me some relief from the darkness and depression of PSSD.

So, short of Jaxx, it doesn't seem like anyone has tried a serotonergic that is not an SSRI/SNRI before trying SSRI reinstatement for the sake of experimentation.

Can you try a MAO-A inhibitor or even a tricyclic before SSRI reinstatement?

Actually, I think I'll try this myself.

I developed PSSD after abrupt withdrawal of 40mg citalopram daily, ~2 years. I tried venlofaxine (SNRI) and it made symptoms worse. Then I went without SSRI for a few months, but my depression and anxiety became unbearable. I went on 20mg lexapro (which is the equivalent of 40mg citalopram), but I had to move up to 30mg to get anxiety under control. This had almost no effect anhedonia and PSSD symptoms.
