Clinical trial that is attempting to treat small fiber neuropathy

Unread post by Brain food »

I found that there is a clinical trial going on for a treatment for small fiber neuropathy using immune globulin (IVIG). Dr. Christopher Gibbons at Harvard Medical School is the principal investigator. The trial assumes a link between an immune reaction and small fiber neuropathy. Supposedly there is anecdotal evidence that this treatment worked on some patients (although not with PSSD). “Dr. Levine (a co-investigator on this project) recently presented 3 cases of small fiber associated with elevated levels of auto-antibodies to TS-HDS or FGFR-3 who were treated with IVIG at 2 gm/kg/month for 6 months. He examined skin biopsies for intra-epidermal nerve fiber density and patient self-reported pain scores at baseline and after six months of therapy. All 3 cases showed marked improvement in pain scores. The average reduction in pain was 54%.”

The study was supposed to be completed on June 1, 2021. I don’t know if went according to schedule of if the pandemic delayed things. Does anyone on this forum live in Massachusetts and could get an appointment with Dr. Christopher Gibbons?
