OK, I have found some guidelines for setting up an unincorporated association. This definitely seems like the way to go in the beginning. It seems relatively straightforward.

If anyone wants to be involved in drawing up the constitution and getting this set up, send me an email:

Re: UK based Charity / Organisation / Committee
Hi everyone,
an update on this.
So far I have:
- Made a website which is pretty much ready to go live.
- Written some related documents:
- Aims of the Association
- Constitution (Structure and Terms and Conditions)
- Membership Form
- GDPR Policy and form
- document with 4 initial activities I think we should pursue
Before I make the website active and declare everything operational, I'd like feedback on the documents and constitution etc. that I have drafted.
The benefit of us creating this is that associations in other countries have been able to achieve some excellent things (organising symposiums with sympathetic medical professionals in attendance which may lead to research etc. etc.). We're in the process of collaborating with these other associations on some initiatives suggested by Dr Healy. It's far easier to coordinate this if we are organised. Friends from these associations have advised that formal organisation and a professional approach is what helped them to achieve these things.
I have created a discord server to share the documents I have created. Please join the discord server and get involved / give me some feedback.
