I like that Dr. Healy is a doctor who accepts PSSD. But there are some things about him that I don't like.brman wrote:David Healy research about PSSD

1) He benefits from PSSD existing because it helps his blogs and books. (This wouldn't be bad on it's own...but...)
2) He has a really pessimistic, and Yahoo group, type view on PSSD. It's like "Well, you're fucked. Nothing we've tried has worked, recovery is very rare. Let's all bitch about big Pharma and feel shitty about this loss."
That being said, I have heard about this study he is trying to conduct around PSSD, and that's really exciting.
I think his heart is in the right place, I just wish he'd post a bit more positively, and about some of the effective treatments that we have found here. PSSD sucks, but it's not a death sentence, and the more you ruminate about how shitty it is, the more depressed you become. If I would have found his site first, and that was it...I may not be alive right now. It's just so damn depressing.
Just my 2 cents. Sorry that was unnecessarily long for a post about Dr. Healy info. Thanks for posting this!

He would benefit more by not talking about PSSD and not being GSK's persona non-grata.

Re: David Healy research about PSSD
I don't discount that he has sympathy for people with PSSD, but he sells books and goes on radio shows talking about it. If he didn't, none of those things would happen, and that's part of how he makes his living.Maldoror wrote:"He benefits from PSSD existing because it helps his blogs and books."

Re: David Healy research about PSSD
I wrote a comment on the Rxisk PSSD research article page and asked whether the project that is supported by Cardiff University is still planned. I also wrote that in my opinion they should define a deadline if they want people to take part.
They didn't answer and have deleted my comment.

What do you mean by "this kind of research"?
I think that fmri studies could be very interesting.

Re: David Healy research about PSSD
Why not? Fmri shows a big difference between people who take SSRI and people who take a placebo: https://www.mpg.de/8426203/escitalopram-brain
I sent a mail to them. They told me that their work has taken a slightly different direction, apparently peripheral nervous system.
They refer to http://withdrawal.rxisk.org/new-model/
So instead of a fmri study we get nothing. Very disappointing.. It's the wrong direction in my opinion.
