Maldoror's journal
Age at the start of SSRI's treatment: 27/28
Gender: Male
Country: Portugal
September 2011 to September 2012: Treated for depression and anxiety with 75 mg Effexor and 15 mg Mirtazapine. No noticeable sexual dysfunction during treatment.
September 2012: End of treatment. Developed PSSD.
Symptoms (1/10 being 10 normal function):
Erections are harder to get and maintain. (5/10)
Soft glans (even when the shaft is erect). (3/10) [if I recall correctly this was not present during my first year of PSSD. Could it be the consequence of a minor penile trauma I had 3 months post-PSSD?]
Watery sperm. (7/10)
Less pleasurable orgasms (7/10)
Morning Wood (6/10)
Loss of general enjoyment of sex (6/10)
Libido (10/10)
Improvements:
None so far.
Treatments:
Acute Cialis + Yohimbine worked well during 2013. (Stopped using it due to fear of potential eye problems (Cialis) and due to the anxiety Yohimbine causes)
Additional info:
No symptoms of depression nor anxiety, which were chronic before SSRIs. I believe whatever physiological changes PSSD causes are also "treating" those issues.
3 years after quitting I still have elevated liver enzymes which makes it likely the drugs caused some kind of permanent damage to my liver.
My vision greatly deteriorated after quitting the drugs and I have bad cataracts. I was always somewhat suspicious the drugs had something to do with it. It seems I was right: http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/catarac ... epressants

You and I have nearly identical symptoms! Minus the lack of depression, which I picked up after the SSRI.Maldoror wrote:Age at the start of SSRI's treatment: 27/28

Any improvement?
I'm editing my post to add two pieces of info non-PSSD related but SSRI-related:
-- 3 years after quitting I still have elevated liver enzymes which makes it likely the drugs caused some kind of permanent damage to my liver.
-- My vision greatly deteriorated after quitting the drugs and I have bad cataracts. I was always somewhat suspicious the drugs had something to do with it. It seems I was right: http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/catarac ... epressants

Re: Maldoror's journal
After some failed attempts at casual sex and bad ED and soft glans while trying to masturbate in the past year I've now found a partner who I feel comfortable with. While things are far from perfect there was a massive improvement with her. This confirms my impression that intimacy and an understanding partner is the best thing for PSSD. At least for me. Casual sex is basically impossible now, and even masturbation is hard sometimes. But with a good partner ED improves and even sensation. It's not perfect but it's possible to still have a satisfying and fulfilling sexuality.
Btw, do you remember brunyan? That guy gave hope to many people with his healing story. Turns out he's not healed but he reports the same as I do. Bad sex if it's casual. Ok, good sex if it's with someone he cares about.
I'm still curious about trying MUSE though, now that I have this girl I'm curious to see whether it fixes my soft glans issue.

Re: Maldoror's journal
Like you I was on Effexor and that's what gave me PSSD 10 years ago.
I have a few questions for you. Did you quit cold turkey, or taper off? If you tapered off how long of a period did you do it?
When you were on Effexor did you have your normal sex drive?

I quit cold turkey.
Though I never had sex on Effexor my sex drive was normal I think. I masturbated often.

"You and I have nearly identical symptoms! Minus the lack of depression, which I picked up after the SSRI."
Well, I don't have recurrent depressions and everyday anxiety as I used too, but I still feel deep anguish over my PSSD. Sometimes I accept it but sometimes I spend days depressed and obsessing about it.
