Sexual dysfunction before vs. after discontinuation

Hello all,

I have a general question regarding when your sexual dysfunction started in the process of taking SSRIs.

For me personally, I was on Paxil 20 mg for 1 month where it did nothing and didn't impact my sexuality at all. The following month I was placed on 40 mg and very slowly, my sexuality decreased over the course of the month. After discontinuation (cold turkey, as prescribed by my doctor), my sexuality was still there a little bit but continued to dwindle to nothing, where it is now.

How many of you had sexual dysfunction while on the medication vs having it after stopping?

while on medication
i took Escitalopram (Seroplex) for 2 weeks at 20 mg stopped it cold turkey
i saw in the 7th day of taking it i had no sexual reaction
I have genital anesthesia, absent libido, ejaculatory anhedonia. I have also emotional blunting

took escitalopram for 4 days at 5 mg. After 4th day I realized what was happening when I had ejaculation issues. I never touched the drug again, now we are...7.5 months later about...now it's erection issues, sensitivity, bit of emotional blunting, and may libido a little bit.

But hey, the anxiety's gone. :/

I've taken it a few times only. Never for more than a day at a time. Mainly for tests. It's prescribed for ADD, but I had better luck with not taking it and then getting extended time on tests. Do I struggle in class sometimes? yea I do. But my best ideas come when I space. Plus it gave me bad headaches. IDK why I put it on my bio, but I have taken it, and do have some experience with it. I know people have brought it up on here before, so if they do I could give them my 2 cents. It didn't help/ hurt PSSD in the slightest.

1st time on escitalopram(8 months 10mg) no sexual dysfunction what so ever. 2nd time on escitalopram(10mg for 1 year and 7 months) no sexual dysfunction what so ever(even an over sex drive maybe due to OCD). BUT*** decrease in sex drive on the 1 year 7th month, following erectile dysfunction with numbness, especially when I tapered over 4 weeks(7.5mg,5mg,2.5mg).

My dysfunction started same night when i swallowed citalopram in 2013

I can believe it, how fast it was, i felt this numbness in my legs and genitals, i had fever too, felt horrible.

But it was all partial, now its complete,


Went to psychiatrist a few months later , hes offered wellbutrin and sildenafil ,i ve said screw it,


Before mediciation even when my anxiety was complete agoraphobic i had pleasant sex experiences,

Shit, whenever i think about it gives me shivers, im glad this forum exists, its a light in the darkness..
