Xyzal caused a crash
Has anyone had a bad experience with the antihistamine Xyzal or any antihistamine? I took it for allergies, and I've been in a crash ever since which is so discouraging because I was doing very well prior to it. I never even thought about the fact that an antihistamine could have any effect on PSSD. So frustrating.

If you read *My Article* you would know that Histamine plays a LARGE role in Anhedonia, Libido & sexual function: Libido & Orgasms.

This is very interesting, thank you. Why, though, would the effects be lingering after stopping Xyzal? My allergies got worse again, so doesn't that mean my histamine has increased again?
Re: Xyzal caused a crash
My report about antihistamine is rather self-contradictory:
1) I've lost my allergies since PSSD, so I should have low histamine
2) I had my best window (one good month) while taking hydroxyzine for sleep issues - but a) I was at my lowest point ever just before b) sleep improvement could explain general improvement (but why did improvements not last longer???)

I used an antihistamine once and got restless legs syndrome for about 6 weeks.

This is so important, but so easily overlooked....after some early negative experiences trying stuff for PSSD I stopped taking anything. I later twice took prescription drugs prescribed by a doctor for non PSSD conditions and crashed permanently from both.
Please think before taking anything.
I researched levothyroxine and corticosteroid cream before use and found nothing negative...I would have preferred not to be a pioneer!

Male
PSSD after 3 days on Sertraline (50mg) (Aurobindo) December 2016 to date.
Tinnitus, insomnia (1.5 hours/night sleep) poor memory/cognition as a bonus!
Possibly PSSD from October 1998...just didn't realise what I was suffering from! (pre internet)

Probably your Histamine levels were already downregulated after PSSD, in the Brain (predisposition), then, like most AntiHistamines, your Histamine H(1) receptors were downregulated by taking the medication.dandelion5 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 1:51 am This is very interesting, thank you. When histamine levels are downregulated, would this cause a decrease in allergy symptoms though? I mean, I guess, compared to how my allergies were pre-Prozac, it is better overall (it was pretty awful before, not sure if it's coincidental or not), but I do still deal with stuffy nose, itchy ears, etc, which is why I took the Xyzal because my ENT felt my allergies are leading to sinus infections.
The Xyzal also made me feel drowsy and depressed.

That’s what every single med to treat allergies does as a side effect. Some are even used off label as sleep aid.
The least drowsy med I saw was desloratadine, but there’s some Allegra formulations containing pseudoephedrine that is an stimulant to give some energy.

Hi, how are you doing now? I need to take xyzal too and I'm scared.dandelion5 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 12:36 am Has anyone had a bad experience with the antihistamine Xyzal or any antihistamine? I had a terrible, permanent crash with another antihistamine , chlorpheniramine, which is actually an SSRI. Some antihistamines are actually SSRI's , but I can't find any evidence of Xyzal acting like an SSRI.
