Chronic Administration of Naltrexone Upregulates Opioid Receptors

Unread post by lookingforacure »

Here’s more discussion on the Wikipedia page explaining that prolonged use of naltrexone has been observed to increase opioid receptors.

Based on available evidence, naltrexone seems to have minimal untoward effects in the aforementioned areas, at least with long-term therapy, .[45][46][47][48] It has been suggested that differences in findings between acute and longer-term studies of naltrexone treatment might be related to altered function in the opioid system with chronic administration of naltrexone.[47][45] For example, marked upregulation of opioid receptors and hyper-sensitivity to opioids have been observed with naltrexone in preclinical studies.
