forum intro - Sonny OP

The main reason I created this forum is simply because there is no forum on this topic. Sure it's brought up in threads on forums, but there isn't an actual forum about it, and certainly not one that seeks to unite people to solve this problem. There is a yahoo group about it. However the group format is annoying. Not to mention one of the mods there is a total fascist that censors anyone he/she doesn't like and/or agree with. There are also entirely too many people that are rude and seem to enjoy flaming others, and lots of people espousing new age and "alternative medicine-like" theories going completely unchallenged.

Those are all detrimental things I aim to avoid here. There has to be free speech, but there also must be respect and cooperation. Deeply personal things will be discussed here, and I want people to feel comfortable doing so. I also want to bring about a greater understanding of this problem, as well as techniques to mitigate it's effects.

Hi Sonny,

I just found your forum today. I am JustinCase from the ssrisex board. Not sure if you remember me or not. Anyhow its nice to see you created an open forum. I am guessing you had a falling out with Voran and he isn't letting you post? Anyhow, this could be better anyways, I was always frustrated with how ssrisex was closed. Problem is I think not many people will find this site, its kind of hidden. But yet it would be good to have a place to accumulate research. I wonder if we could create some intelligent polls. I am trained as a scientist. I had emailed Voran before to create better polls but he never did. Basically you need to normalize things. The absolute number of people who took a certain drug and have PSSD means jack squat. What would be more meaningful is if we knew how many people took the drug and how many people developed PSSD. Likewise for supplements. It would be great to have access to a list of supplements and gather data on who took them and what percentage of people saw any benefit.

The name does sound familiar. Voran did not like me from day 1. What really pissed me off was when someone wrote this snotty post to me demanding evidence for something I said. So I linked to the evidence, and made some sort of "told you so" type comment, basically tit for tat with the way I was addressed. Voran didn't approve it, and seemed to have a problem with me because we disagreed on some minor thing I can't even remember. I was only on there for maybe 3 days or so. At that point I deleted what posts I had on there and stopped posting. I read the messages for another month or so in hopes of finding useful information.

I talked to a couple people through e-mail who I perceived as being rational, as well as a couple of people who seemed to have reached a point of desperation, so that I could offer them assistance. I'm not sure who all has come here from the board though.

Glad to have someone with a background in science here. That will be helpful. I can definitely make polls. Just let me know what you need.
If you can think of any key words to add, that might help people find it. I'm at the top of google results for "PSSD research", and a couple other things, but any suggestions would be great.
Just let me know what you need, and I'll try to help you with it.

Basically what I think would be most valuable would be a poll where we ask a series of questions like this.

Please select whether or not you have tried a drug/supplement to help with PSSD and rate its effectiveness. The scale will be 0 to 5. 0 meaning no effect what so ever and 5 being it cured my PSSD. Something in between like a 2 or 3 means it helped but only somewhat.

For me for example I would click
Cialis Effectiveness
Yes 2
comment: Helped somewhat with maintenance of erection, but I still have problems with soft glans and reduced sensitivity.

Ginko Effectiveness
Yes 0

Zinc Effectiveness
Yes 2
comment: Took specifically zinc picolinate. It helped get my testosterone back to normal along with exercise. I went from 338 back up to 713.

Choline Effectiveness
No

etc. If there is a way then we could tally up the scores. I could look into it. Maybe a google poll or something like that if the forum doesn't already have it. The only way for us to really know what works is to get numbers, but they have to be relevant numbers. IE we must know how many people took the drug and out of those how many it was effective for and how effective it was. We may discover Choline is very effective, and Ginko isn't for example if a lot of people have tried Ginko and it hasn't worked for most, but only a few tried Choline but it worked for all of them. Get my ideas. By the way I like your research areas on this site. Its way more organized then yahoo. Its so hard to find old posts over there. I'd like to see your forum catch on, I just don't think many people know about it yet. Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction sucks, and no one is researching it, but perhaps we can figure some things out on our own.

Sure I could set up some polls like that. I just have to give it a bit of thought as to how it should be organized.

I have actually been researching this thing on my own for a long time. Actually I was researching my problem long before I knew it was PSSD. Then in my research I found the yahoo group, and figured I would see if anyone else was working on this and compare notes. Then the issues I detailed above led to me to this. I figured it would probably take quite some time for people to start using it, so I have so far just set it up to compare notes and advise people looking for assistance. But I'll go ahead and set up polls. I just have to figure out how granular it should be. Ideally separating out major symptoms would be good, but with small numbers it may be more practical to keep it simple, or strike some balance between the two. Actually as I think about it, maybe separate polls, one symptom based, and the other treatment based. I'll get something going and then you can give me your input on it.

As for getting people here, you could mention mention it to people you know from the yahoo group. That's about all I can think of though, other than adding keywords to make the board come up more in searches.

I've been a little short on time, but I'll get some polls posted before too long here. In the mean time, you should have permissions to make polls. If you create a message, you just scroll down and the poll is down there.
