Meso has passed away. I share with you his latest genius idea.

Deya Rabbie (Meso) was a very active and inspiring neuropharmaceutical researcher for many years.

We learned on August 20, 2024 on his discord server that he had passed away. His wife found him asleep with blood in his mouth. Suicide was ruled out.

In the days before he shared on the forum the intense stress he was facing (he was living in poverty and in a country at war (Egypt). His wife was very ill and needed care, but they had no money).

In tribute to all he did for patients affected by drugs, I'd like to highlight his many contributions:

- He tried to develop a lithium-based treatment.

- He published a scientific paper with others in 2022 in the prestigious journal Sexual Medical Reviews: Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD): Biological Plausibility, Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Presumed Risk Factors.

On February 13, he wrote on his Facebook account:
So exciting!🤩
I'm nearing to get my 2nd peer-reviewed study on PSSD published. Should take a couple of weeks longer.
It's titled: The Multi-Faceted Hypothesis on PSSD Pathophysiology
I'm going to work next on a section that isn't my forte (genetics, yikes) on behalf of a colleague who caught covid but it shouldn't be too difficult.
After that, it just needs English proofing, rephrasing, y'know, polishing and trimming and somesuch then it's ready for submission!
I don't know more about the future of this article. But it can often take a year for an article to be published.

On August 5, he shared with me by private message an idea that I find very promising. I haven't seen much discussion of this possibility on the PSSD forums when it could be our way out, if only we could get access to it and try it.

He suggested rTMS therapy, specifically the accelerated and intensive SAINT TMS protocol. You can read more about this promising therapy on pubmed. It's a therapy that has been approved for severe depression for several decades. It is an adaptive therapy that stimulates specific dysfunctional areas of the brain, previously identified by MRI.

Meso gave me hope. He gave us hope. He did what he could to help people, even for free.

Honour his memory, he was a beautiful, dedicated person who deserved to live a happy life.

So unfortunate to lose such a smart mind. Even more unfortunate to see someone pass without resolution.

I've been considering RTMS. It takes about 25 sessions minimum from what I'm reading to see a difference on average. The approach is actually quite successful for a lot of people.

There are several approaches to TMS. The therapy Meso told me about is one of the most effective because it is intensive:
Accelerated TMS was make well known when the technique was used in Stanford University in the SAINT clinical study.

This is still TMS, where a magnet is brought close to your head for a short period and exact magnetic stimulation is performed to open up under-used pathways in the brain or where over excited areas of the brain can be calmed.

Patients receive 50 treatments in 5 days, typically 10 daily treatments that are 10 minutes long when treating for depression. A 50-minute break between treatments is the norm.

This is more intensive than other TMS techniques.

The TMS Institute of Arizona was one of the first centers in the Southwest to offer Accelerated TMS, which began in March 2022 and have treated patients from all over the United States and Canada.

We have delivered nearly 100 treatments with >75-85% of clients noting at least 50% improvement if not complete remission ranging from at the end of treatment to within 2-6 weeks after completion of the treatment protocol.

We proudly only use the MagVenture TMS device, which is the same TMS device utilized by Stanford University in the SAINT clinical study for the treatment of treatment resistant major depressive disorder.

This protocol was granted FDA approval in September 2022. We also offer an Accelerated TMS protocol for Generalized Anxiety Disorder with and without Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), ADD/ADHD, brain optimization, insomnia, and weight loss.

Accelerated TMS is not covered by insurance at this time but we offer several other versions of TMS that are covered by most insurances. These other versions are also very effective for treating depression.
If you try rTMS, let us know how your symptoms have progressed.

I'm waiting to see my doctor to talk about it. I'm also planning to write to a researcher in September, when university starts.

We agreed with Meso that I would keep him informed :-(

I am so sad to hear this.

Meso messaged me the day before saying this "My Nemesis is proteins!"

And then I replied saying "What?"

And then he replied saying "I mean, if I eat any proteins I crash".

This was the last I heard from him, I so sad to hear this. I am still suffering myself, but I have many good days thankfully with the use of certain compounds that open a window for me (Cyproheptadine, Inositol, PEA).

crushing news. Since the very beginning of this horrible period of my life I knew of meso's work and read his discussions. Truly gave me hope knowing that there are smart people like him trying to figure out this disease. So bizarre to think that he's not with us anymore.. RIP
