We learned on August 20, 2024 on his discord server that he had passed away. His wife found him asleep with blood in his mouth. Suicide was ruled out.
In the days before he shared on the forum the intense stress he was facing (he was living in poverty and in a country at war (Egypt). His wife was very ill and needed care, but they had no money).
In tribute to all he did for patients affected by drugs, I'd like to highlight his many contributions:
- He tried to develop a lithium-based treatment.
- He published a scientific paper with others in 2022 in the prestigious journal Sexual Medical Reviews: Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD): Biological Plausibility, Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Presumed Risk Factors.
On February 13, he wrote on his Facebook account:
I don't know more about the future of this article. But it can often take a year for an article to be published. So exciting!
I'm nearing to get my 2nd peer-reviewed study on PSSD published. Should take a couple of weeks longer.
It's titled: The Multi-Faceted Hypothesis on PSSD Pathophysiology
I'm going to work next on a section that isn't my forte (genetics, yikes) on behalf of a colleague who caught covid but it shouldn't be too difficult.
After that, it just needs English proofing, rephrasing, y'know, polishing and trimming and somesuch then it's ready for submission!
On August 5, he shared with me by private message an idea that I find very promising. I haven't seen much discussion of this possibility on the PSSD forums when it could be our way out, if only we could get access to it and try it.
He suggested rTMS therapy, specifically the accelerated and intensive SAINT TMS protocol. You can read more about this promising therapy on pubmed. It's a therapy that has been approved for severe depression for several decades. It is an adaptive therapy that stimulates specific dysfunctional areas of the brain, previously identified by MRI.
Meso gave me hope. He gave us hope. He did what he could to help people, even for free.
Honour his memory, he was a beautiful, dedicated person who deserved to live a happy life.
